MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Miami Gardens Police Department says their police chief has been arrested on Friday night for the solicitation of a prostitute.READ MORE: Legendary 'Goodfellas' actor Ray Liotta dead at 67
A senior law enforcement source familiar with the investigation told CBS4’s Jim DeFede that Chief Stephen Johnson was arrested in Dania Beach at around 7 p.m.
According to the source, Johnson allegedly solicited sex from an undercover Broward Sheriff’s deputy posing as a prostitute.
Following the arrest, and after it was determined who Johnson was, the BSO notified the Miami Gardens City Manager.READ MORE: BSO Investigates Fatal Crash In Dania Involving Motorcyclist
According the department, Johnson’s employment with the city has been terminated, effective immediately.
Assistant Chief Antonio Brooklin will serve as the interim chief in the meantime.
