MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Miami Gardens Police Department says their police chief has been arrested on Friday night for the solicitation of a prostitute.
A senior law enforcement source familiar with the investigation told CBS4’s Jim DeFede that Chief Stephen Johnson was arrested in Dania Beach at around 7 p.m.
According to the source, Johnson allegedly solicited sex from an undercover Broward Sheriff’s deputy posing as a prostitute.
Following the arrest, and after it was determined who Johnson was, the BSO notified the Miami Gardens City Manager.
According the department, Johnson’s employment with the city has been terminated, effective immediately.
Assistant Chief Antonio Brooklin will serve as the interim chief in the meantime.
The department released a statement following the arrest:
We remain committed to excellence and integrity on every level. We will not allow Mr. Johnson’s bad judgment to reflect negatively on the hardworking officers of the City of Miami Gardens and the Residents they serve on a daily basis.
