South Florida May Be In For Record-Breaking Lows

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The boots are out, the sweaters are on—South Florida is experiencing some of the chilliest weather of the season.
Low temperatures Thursday morning bottomed out near 40 in West Kendall but remained in the upper 40s to near 50 elsewhere as winds picked up in the early morning.
A gusty northwest wind will blow Thursday under bright sunshine as temperature readings climb into the upper 50s.

Thursday night, as winds drop, cold temperatures are expected over all of South Florida with freezing temperatures over south and west Miami-Dade's agriculture areas.
There's a wind chill advisory in effect from 11pm Thursday to 9am Friday for Inland Broward & Inland Miami-Dade. The main concern in these areas will be frost potential or even a light freeze if winds if winds become calm.
Lows by Friday morning will range from around 31 degrees in south and west Miami-Dade's farm areas to near 40 at Miami International Airport.
South Florida shelters are opening for those in need.
Residents with tropical and tender potted plants should bring them inside. People who live near and west of the Turnpike should cover the most sensitive tropical plants tonight. It is recommended the plant is covered with cloth, if using plastic, don't let it touch the plant. And don't forget to bring your pets inside as well.
EXTRA PRECAUTIONS FOR PETS AND PLANTS
On Friday sunshine will allow temperatures to recover into the 60s and over the weekend, readings will reach the 70s.
