Broward Opens Shelter Doors Ahead Of Cold Front

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The coldest temperatures since December 2010 appear to be on the way to South Florida for the next couple days—as a result, Broward County has declared a multi-night cold weather emergency.

Overnight lows throughout South Florida will drop into the low to mid 40s with wind chill values in the low 30s by Thursday morning, CBS4 Chief Meteorologist Craig Setzer forecasts.

The cold weather emergency in Broward is for Wednesday and Thursday, between 6:30 PM until 7 AM Thursday and until 8 AM Friday.

People in need of shelter are advised to report to the following pickup and/or shelter locations no later than 6:30 PM Wednesday and Thursday for transportation or access to special cold night shelters:
Pompano Beach
Pompano Beach City Hall (Pickup Location Only)
100 W. Atlantic Blvd. (Southeast Corner)
North Homeless Assistance Center (Shelter Only)
1700 Blount Road
Fort Lauderdale
The Salvation Army (Shelter and Pickup Location)
1445 West Broward Blvd. Central Homeless Assistance Center (Shelter Only)
920 NW 7th Avenue
Hollywood
Broward Outreach Center (Shelter and Pickup Location)
2056 Scott Street

Be advised however, if the weather forecast changes to predict warmer or colder conditions, cold weather emergency shelter nights may be canceled or extended.

Also, ahead of the chilly weather, the Animal Care and Adoption Division wanted to remind residents to keep their pets indoors.
