MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- With seven solo albums to his credit and multi-platinum sales of over 16 million copies, it's safe to say Colombian born Juanes is the world's leading all Spanish language rock artist.

Back in 2000, Juanes was in Miami with his first ever Latin Grammy nominations and CBS4's Lisa Petrillo was the one who told him he would be performing on the big show.

"You will be performing at this year's Latin Grammy Awards," said Petrillo back in 2001.

"Oh my God," said Juanes,"Really, I'm going to cry!"

Now to 2015, Petrillo asked him if he remembers that day.

"Yes, yes of course, I remember that day and I was almost crying. I went to the restroom so people couldn't see me cry. I couldn't believe what was happening that day," said Juanes.

This year on The Grammy Awards, Juanes made history by being the first artist to perform a song completely in Spanish.

"When I was there on stage about to perform. I was saying wow, I cant believe this moment. Fifteen years ago, I was performing in the streets with no record contracts at all and this was just a dream. I was so happy with the academy for this invitation," said Juanes.

Later this week, American audiences will be seeing more of the rocker who now calls Miami home.

Juanes wrote the original song , "Juntos" for Disney's new movie McFarland USA starring Kevin Costner.

'The idea of the song is when you are a part of the team, everything is possible in life. If you work hard everything can happen," said Juanes.

Juanes sure proves that.

McFarland USA opens in theaters on Friday.
