Family Wants Answers In Miami Gardens Police-Involved Shooting

MIAMI GARDENS (CBSMiami) – A family is demanding answers after a police-involved shooting in Miami Gardens.
The shooting took place at 19157 NW 3rd Ave. in Miami Gardens.
According to a statement from Miami Gardens Police, it was around 5 a.m. that they were dispatched regarding a "violent, mentally disturbed male subject."

After encountering the male subject, who has now been identified as Lavall Hall, a physical altercation ensued after Hall failed to comply with officers' verbal instructions, according to the statement.
Hall had in his possession "an object" that was used during the altercation, and "as a result, the individual was shot and subsequently died on the scene," according to the statement.
According to the suspect's mother, the man suffers from mental problems and this was not the first time she has called police to help take him to the hospital.
"I called the police this morning to ask them to please help me with my child," said mother Catherine Daniels. "He have a mental problem and when I went around the corner to help my child all [the police] had to do was take my child because he got a mental problem and they killed my child, took my child away from me."
Daniels also said that Hall had a piece of a broom when he left the residence. It has not been confirmed by police if that is the object referred to in their statement.
One officer was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital but he is expected to be okay.
