MIRAMAR (CBSMiami/AP) —Miramar's oldest police dog has retired after nearly a decade of crime fighting.

Mac, an 11-year-old Belgian Malinois, received a retirement ceremony on Thursday in Miramar.

Officers say Mac is trained in explosives and has tracked down criminals ranging from those wanted for burglary to murder. In October 2010, Mac tracked a suspect in a fatal Brinks truck robbery outside a Bank of America. Five people were arrested and convicted in federal court.

Throughout his career, Mac has assisted other agencies with explosive sweeps, including during Super Bowls, the NBA playoffs and the new Miami federal courthouse.

Mac will remain with handler Edel Esponda.
