MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- A Miami man claims he was attacked for not giving a man the dollar he asked for at a gas station.

Carlos Castellon was pumping gas at the Marathon Gas Station on NW 17 Ave. and NW 24 St. in Allapattah.

"I come here two and three times a week and I've never had a problem here," Castellon said.

That all changed Monday afternoon.

Castellon was at pump number two when he says a man approached him.

"He was asking for money," Castellon explained. "I told him I didn't have one dollar, I only had five dollars left over. But that was all the money that I had. He told me he was going to call the police on me. I said, 'hey man, you know what, I'm going to call the police on you'."

That's when Castellon says things got violent.

"When I was pumping gas, he came with that pipe and he hit me in the head," Castellon said.

The force of the hit was so strong, Castellon said the pipe shattered.

There were pieces of it on the ground more than an hour later.

His ear was sliced and it bled quite a bit.

Castellon said the man also flashed a razor blade at him.

He said his attacker then got physical with two other people, including Bianca Vargas.

She said the same man asked her father for money, so she intervened.

"He come to me and hit me like five times," Vargas said. "I just blacked out. I fell on the floor."

Police were called out and quickly took a man into custody.

A detective said the victims were able to identify the man as their attacker.

His name was not immediately released, but he's believed to be homeless.

Castellon hopes the man gets the help he needs.

"To tell you the truth, I have mental problems myself. But I take medicine and go to a psychiatrist two times a month. I don't go around the city messing up people's lives," Castellon said.

We're still waiting on the official arrest affidavit to know what charges the man could be facing.

The victims were checked out by emergency personnel, but no one had to be taken to the hospital.
