“It all starts about what they do on the tape and that’s what we always go back to,” Hickey said of his scouting philosophy on the Big O Show. “Even though it’s obvious now how good of a player Landry is, there were some raised eyes when he ran a 4.7 at the combine. We always go back to the tape.”

Although Hickey has only manned his post for just one season in Miami, the frustration felt by the fans has been mounting for years. How does he approach that?

“We hurt the same — trust me — after the game, after the season we feel the pain,” Hickey said. “All the time, energy, sacrifices invested in trying to make this team great for our fans because they’ve experienced great.

“That’s the thing I love about here — they’re used to it, they’ve seen it over a sustained period of time. That motivates us to continue to try to get back to that.”
