A passerby had seen the plumes of smoke about 12:30 p.m. and called 911.

Miramar Fire Rescue broke down the doors and inside the house they found the woman who hey say was seriously injured.

Police have taken over the investigation and have called the fire "suspicious."  A spokesperson said investigators are probing the possibility of foul play.

Officer were asking surrounding homeowners for surveillance video, perhaps in an effort to capture images of a person or via call coming to or from the house.

Officials have released no details about the fire and have not identified the woman who was thought to live in the home alone.
