MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Miami Beach police have arrested a South Florida nightclub security guard who allegedly beat a tourist unconscious.

According to the arrest form, 34-year-old Cody Quaife turned himself in Friday afternoon.

A witness told police that Quaife, unprovoked, punched 22-year-old Youness Adlan in the face. As Adlan fell to the ground, his head struck the sidewalk.

The arrest comes just hours after Adlan's family pleaded on Friday for the community's help to find the assailant.

For the past 2 weeks Najem Adlan has been by his son's bedside at Jackson Memorial Hospital as he lays in a coma with several skull fractures.

"I need my son to be better," said Najem Adlan.

He flew to South Florida from Morocco after getting a call that his son had been found unconscious outside club Cameo in Miami Beach.

"This situation is so hard for me, for his mom, for all of the people who love him.  He was a very good boy," said Najem Adlan.

The Moroccan national who attends college in Rhode Island was visiting South Florida over the holidays with a friend. They rang in the new year at Club Cameo.

According to the police report, Youness Adlan and his friend went their separate ways around 5 a.m. and the next time the friend saw Youness Adlan was on the sidewalk, by the side door on Espanola Way, unconscious.

The father is hoping his son will pull through and that justice comes to the suspect.

"I believe in America.  I believe in police.  I believe in justice.  I need help to know what's happened to our son," said Najem Adlan.

Late Friday night, the family released this statement to CBS4's Travell Eiland:

"We greatly appreciate the hard work of the Miami Beach Police Department, the Miami Beach Community and the media covering this tragedy. All of their hard work clearly led to the arrest of the individual you attacked Youness."
