PEMBROKE PINES (CBSMiami) – A shooting at a Pembroke Pines apartment complex led to a massive police response at a 7-Eleven store, a search for a phantom suspect and two juvenile shooting suspects in custody, according to police.

Pembroke Pines Police descended on the 7-Eleven store before 5 pm Monday concerned that an armed juvenile might be inside. Police said clerks evacuated the store as officers covered every entrance and exit and perched themselves in defensive positions. Armed officers tried to cover every conceivable angle from outside the store.

All this unfolded after police received a call from a juvenile who said a couple of other juveniles fired a shot at him at an apartment complex adjacent to the 7-Eleven Plaza as he walked home from school.

"The information that we have at this time is that shots were fired towards a young man that's all the information we have at this time but the young man was not struck," said Pembroke Pines Police Captain Al Xiques.

Police said the alleged shooters were seen in the 7-Eleven and after police responded, they detained them outside the store. However, investigators said was disagreement among witnesses over whether a third armed juvenile remained in the store. Pembroke Pines officers arrived in force, searched the business and determined that there was no one else inside.

"Our role is to ensure that the community and our citizens are safe and in doing so, we can't take the risk that there's a possible third suspect inside that store and not clear it," Xiques said.

The incident shut down busy Palm Avenue near Pembroke Road during rush hour that caused quite a traffic headache for people trying to get home. Police have not said if they found any weapons on those two shooting suspects. None of the individuals names are being released because they're juveniles.
