MIAMI (CBSMiami) — A cruise ship worker has been sentenced to more than 30 year behind bars for attempted murder and aggravated sexual abuse of  a passenger.

Local and federal officials said 29- year old Ketut Pujayasa, an Indonesian national working, with Holland America cruise line, brutally beat and attacked a 32-year old female passenger on February 14, 2014.

During the attack Pujayasa choked, strangled, and beat the victim repeatedly with various objects including a telephone cord and a curling iron cord.

Meantime, the passenger tried to scream and get away but ended up unconscious at least once during the attack which is when he sexually assaulted her, according to officials.
