Bennie Blades: Brad Kaaya "Reminds Me of a Young Vinny Testaverde"

Interviews-wqam

The Miami Hurricanes are rebuilding, trying to recapture the ways of the dominant teams of the 1980s and early 2000s, the days when All-Americans like Bennie Blades used to roam the secondary and bring terror to opposing offenses.

Blades joined WQAM on Monday to share his thoughts on the state of Hurricanes football, and how Brad Kaaya reminds him of one of Miami's all-time great passers.

"It's a long, tedious process," the retired NFL defensive back and Canes legend said on the Marc Hochman Show with Zach Krantz. "Al inherited players from before and so, I want to win probably more than any other former player, but I'm not going to throw him under the bus yet.

"I'm going to wait two years to see what he does with his regime of players and see what happens."

Blades knows his opinion may not be popular with the fans, but he continued to defend Golden.

"I'm not calling for his head, no. Al Golden -- I'm sure I'm going to get a lot of tweets this afternoon -- and the thing is I want to win just as much as the next man wants to win. And I don't know right now, there may not be a coach out there that's better than him right now."

The former third overall draft pick is a huge fan of quarterback Brad Kaaya, who passed for nearly 3,200 yards along with 26 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in his true freshman season.

"I really like the way and direction the program is heading right now, especially if we get more guys like Brad Kaaya to come in and say 'ok, look I'm going to take it upon myself, take responsibility and lead by example,'" Blades said. "He reminds me of a young Vinny Testaverde -- didn't really talk much, just went out and made things happen."
