MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Alonso Mourning, the 6'10" Miami Heat legend, has been putting his celebrity status toward a good cause.

For a decade and a half, Zo has raised money during his week-long fundraiser in the summer called Zo's Summer Groove.

In the past 15 years, Zo's Summer groove has raised $10 million to help at-risk children—many at the Overtown Youth Center.

CBS4's Vanessa Borge met Zo at the Youth Center for a chat about his Winter Groove. It's a three-day fundraiser, the first of its kind, and he's hoping people will help out.

"All of our efforts are going toward enhancing he lives of children and families in low socioeconomic areas," said Zo.

It kicks off on Saturday December 27th with a 5K run and walk for the family.

"We're going to have bounce houses, a health village for families to get free screenings," Zo told Borge.

The event will be followed by a Sunday night comedy show (tickets still available). Then, to wrap it all up, a round of his famous golf tournament at Turnberry Isle will be held Monday.

"Putting together an event that's going to allow all different people from different walks of life to come together and enjoy themselves and giving back for a great cause and during the time of the year where it's the giving season," said Zo.

And that was big part of why Zo wanted to create a Winter Groove as well, for those spending time in sunny South Florida and in the spirit of giving to those less fortunate.

"I've always believed Miami is the antidote for depression. It truly is. If you really want to get away from the issues come to Miami and soak up some of the sunshine."

The hundreds who will attend Zo's Winter Groove will be getting plenty of sun and in return smiles for their efforts.
