Mannix: Think LeBron's Reception in Miami "Will Be Largely Positive"

The speculation continues to mount regarding how LeBron James will be received by Miami fans when the Cavs battle the Heat on Christmas Day. Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix joined the Joe Rose Show on WQAM this morning to discuss LeBron's return and Josh Smith's next move after getting waived by the Pistons yesterday.

"I think it'll be largely positive," Mannix said of LeBron playing the Heat for the first time in Miami since returning to the Cavs. "I don't think there's anywhere near the animosity in Miami for LeBron as there was in Cleveland back in 2010. He was certainly a mercenary in going there but in four years they were highly successful, going to four Finals, winning two championships. He gave them almost all that they asked for in that sense."

Talk shifted to the Josh Smith and what the market for him will look like after Stan Van Gundy decided to pay him handsomely to go away.

"I think there's a strong market for him," Mannix said." I think ultimately it will come down to the two Texas teams (Mavs and Rockets)."

Reports have surfaced stating Pat Riley and the Heat are gearing up to pursue Smith if he passes waivers. The question is whether he'd even want to go to Miami and if so, whether he'd be a good fit.

"It would certainly give Miami another offense option for a team that's really struggled to score for this entire season," he said. "I just don't see it.

"I think he's going to look for the best situation to win. Those personal relationships I mentioned, the one he has with Dwight Howard, the one he has with Rajon Rondo, I think those will be factors for where he decides to sign."
