MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A reported robbery gone wrong in 2012 has turned out to be cold blooded murder during a bad drug deal, police said. The alleged killer is now behind bars and awaiting extradition to Miami.

Alexander Pena, 35, was arrested on September 17, 2014 in connection to the murder of 33-year-old Michael Lopez Garcia.

According to Miami-Dade police, Pena admitted to setting up a drug deal between Garcia and his associate Renell Jones, 41, back on July 2nd, 2012 at Garcia's home, located at 13621 SW 178 St.

When the deal turned sour, Jones reportedly stabbed Garcia multiple times in the head and the back. Garcia was announced dead at the scene by Miami-Dade fire rescue.

On December 12th, the investigators with the assistance of the Frederick Police Department and the Montgomery County Police Department located Jones in Fredrick, Maryland where he was arrested for an unrelated warrant.

Miami-Dade detectives interviewed Jones in Frederick, said he confessed in full detail his involvement.

Jones was then booked at the Frederick County Correctional Center awaiting extradition to Miami.

Pena is being charged with second-degree murder with a deadly weapon. Jones is being charged with first-degree murder.
