Prisco: "Dig a Hole And Throw The Dolphins In It"

Although two games remain in the 2014 NFL season, the Miami Dolphins' quest for a playoff berth died in New England yesterday after falling 41-13 to Tom Brady and the Patriots. As for coach Joe Philbin's future, CBS Sports' Pete Prisco thinks his time in Miami is coming to an end.

"I think he is gone," Prisco said on the Joe Rose Show on WQAM this morning. "For the second consecutive year you've got a meltdown in December.

"Plus you have the fact that Jim Harbaugh's out there and we know they flirted with him in the past and that's a possibility."

The Dolphins have been consistently linked to Harbaugh with their past flirtations with the 49ers head coach and the fact there's been numerous reports of his unhappiness in San Francisco. Prisco mentioned the Falcons and Jets as other possibilities.

"For him I think it's going to be about the money," Prisco said. "This is clearly a guy who wants to be paid among the elite of the elite in the league even though he doesn't have a Super Bowl victory and his team has regressed the past three years."

Conversation shifted to Ryan Tannehill and how he's developed in Year 3. Miami's quarterback has 22 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and a 90.8 quarterback rating (16th in NFL) on the season.

"I think he's improved a lot and I think that's kind of been overlooked," Prisco said. "I think Tannehill is getting much better.

"Yesterday we saw the deep ball. We saw some chucks down the field. That's something that's the next part of his growth. I think he's a smart quarterback, I think he's athletic. I don't know if he's ever going to be the elite of the elite but we look around the league, a team won the Super Bowl last year who I don't think is elite."
