MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A new Cirque du Soleil show is in town--but this one has a different twist.

Amaluna, ama meaning love and luna translating to moon, is a show all about female power.

"We have a cast of 70-percent women and a completely female band so that's a different twist for a lot of cirque fans," said publicist Rowenna Dunn.

Usually, Cirque du Soleil shows are made up of 80-percent men—not Amaluna.

"It's really empowering girls to get out here and follow their dreams and to break the boundaries and stereotypes a little bit," said Dunn.

But, as Dunn points out, just because it's a show with a cast of mostly women—men won't feel left out.

The show's premise goes as follows: Amaluna is the name of the island where only goddesses live. A storm ship wrecks a crew of men on the island and a love story unfolds.

Larry Edwards, head of wardrobe, works to make the world of Amaluna come alive with costumes brimming with color.

"So it's not just acrobatic acts…it's the music elements, it's the lighting, it's all those elements really coming together to really create a spectacle," Dunn said.

Amaluna is a touring show so time was spent building the stage to get ready for audiences.

"We have a lot of artists who are off the stage and interacting with the audience members as well so you really feel like you are a part of it," said Dunn.

Amaluna opens Thursday and continues through January 25. For tickets and information click here.
