KENDALL (CBSMiami) -- People living in Kendall apartment complex were without power and in the dark early on Tuesday evening for a second night in a row, were able to turn on the power that same night.

As of 8:45 p.m. on Tuesday, the power was back on.

Earlier, residents were angered over the probability of a second night without power.

Neighbors said roofers repairing a mess caused the problem.

Someone backed a truck into a transformer box that supplies power to about 35 units, severing power lines and  causing a fire.

Florida Power and Light replaced the transformer Tuesday morning.

Residents had to wait on an electrician to dig up and replace the underground power lines, so they can be connected to the new transformer.

After several calls to the homeowners association, an electrician finally came out on Tuesday afternoon to assess the damage.

But that did not give comfort to neighbors who have already spent one night in the dark.

The food in their freezers has gone bad and on Tuesday evening they were having to battle cold temps.

It is expected to be the coldest night of the season in South Florida and the people who live in the complex were not happy about it.

"It's beyond upsetting because...you know, when you have a lot of food in your refrigerator and it goes bad and you've got a baby that you've got to warm up formula for and you don't have any electricity for ..and you have a diabetic... I mean you are talking about major problems," said Kim Torrente who had no power.

FPL said they were only required to maintain the transformer which is their equipment.  They are not allowed to dig up the ground and replace the wires because the complex is on private property.

FPL employees worked all throughout the night on Monday to fix things on their end.
