MIAMI (CBSMiami) - New technology is offering new hope to some women with breast cancer. It's a type of mammography that can provide earlier diagnosis, and that has the potential to save lives.

"I feel like it saved my life it could have been bad," said Mirta Suttin.

She is undergoing chemotherapy but at the same time is counting her blessings.

"It was detected very early because of the machine without which maybe we wouldn't have seen anything or let it pass and maybe the next mammogram or the next and after 6 months a year it is too late," said Suttin.

This mother of four is talking about Senobright, a new exam that allows you to get answers related to a breast cancer diagnosis instantly and in the initial stages.

"For me it is the breakthrough that I was looking for. We used to have the conformity and said well I'm suspicious but lets wait six months we don't need to do that, this is an alternative to resolve the issue immediately," Suttin explained.

Dr. Vilma Biaggi is the only doctor in South Florida to have the Senobright machine in her Aventura office. The exam however is only done after the traditional mammogram or if the patient has a history of breast cancer or dense breasts.

"It saves a person it gives a lead of the quality of the biopsy of the treatment extension of the lesions," said Biaggi.

The exam is quick and easy. First the patient receives an IV injection of the iodine contrast, then the technician will position you on the machine and the x-rays are taken.

"This technology after the injection the normal tissue erases and the abnormal tissue sticks out like that. Before we saw equal breasts one healthy one is definately local advance cancer," said Biaggi

Mirta said she remembered sitting in the office with Dr. Biaggi and seeing her diagnosis firsthand, it was terrifying but at the same time she was grateful.

"I think it's incredible I think everybody should have access to diagnosis things as early as possible. I feel lucky, very lucky," said Suttin

Senobright is not recommended for everyone, only if your doctor orders a follow up to your regular mammogram.  Certain insurance companies do cover half the cost.
