Jungle Island Names Cubs With Help From Social Media

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – With help from the public, via social media, Jungle Island has named a pair of baby white tigers Rama and Ananda.

Jungle Island solicited the public's help, on Facebook, giving followers four options for names.

Of the names provided, Rama and Ananda came out on top. The other two options were Samudra, Jyoti.

Over 500 fans entered the contest, according to Jungle Island. One contestant was chosen for a "Totally Tigers" package, which among other perks, includes feeding the cubs.

At birth, the cubs weighed a little over three pounds, had blue-gray eyes and a luxurious white coat with brown stripes.

"White tigers are truly fascinating creatures and their distinctive coloring always provides a draw for our guests," said Jason Chatfield, vice president of zoological operations said at the time of their birth.
