MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- For this edition of "Women To Watch," Trend Tracker® Tara Gilani went one-on-one with Courtney Love, one of the most notorious women in the world.

Rock star and actress Courtney Love is one of pop culture's most controversial and influential women. Her life is the stuff of urban legend.

Gilani caught up with Love in Miami at Roy and Lea Black's annual fundraising gala.

Love oozed talent and warmth.

Gilani asked Courtney if she had a favorite food.

"Yeah, I really love comfort food like baked potato, mashed potatoes with gravy, Thanksgiving dinner," said Love.

Aside from her love of food, based on her Sons of Anarchy success, acting is her "LOVE" these days.

"Right now I'm really focusing on acting more than anything else and I like it at my age. I just toured Australia in the rock thing and it was like you know what? These leather pants are getting kind of tired so I started focusing on acting and I really like it," said the one time queen of grunge and front woman of the
powerful and popular, all female band, Hole.

Debuting in January 2015, Love will star in a new show called "Empire."

"The character is so fascinating," said Love. "It's Lee Daniels producing, who did The Butler and Precious. He's producing a sort of African American Dynasty so I am literally one of the only white
actors on the show in this hip hop empire and I'm having to learn about hip hop fast. I'm playing a soul singer so you have to buy me as a soul singer and I'm like I can't do that Mariah high note ahhhh."

Love looked great.

"Well I've been exercising my butt off," she admitted. "I cut out cheese, all dairy is gone, Pilates, yoga, the usual."

Love her or love to hate her, Courtney Love is a survivor. What's not to love about a survivor?

"You just gotta stay curious, interested in learning. I'm also doing an opera which I mean isn't arias, obviously, it's a pop opera," said Love.

Courtney's mantra? Never give up.

"For years because I had some troubles in '03 and '04 no one would touch me and I just kept punching it and punching it and punching it," said Love.

How did she survive? With a little help from her friends.

"It's true," said Courtney. "My girlfriends. I had a little posse of women that have stuck by me through thick and thin and they're wonderful. Some are movie stars, some are rock stars some are people you've never heard of but they're all fantastic, they have their ups and downs too and we all stick together. "

Love loved playing Gilani's fill in the blank lightening round.

TT: I am?
CL: I am doll parts. The girl with the most cake. I am wearing a Valentino!

TT: I want?
CL: I want an 890 credit score.

TT: I wish ?
CL: I wish I had never taken drugs.

TT: I promise?
CL: I'm never taking them again.

Gilani asked Courtney Love straight out: "How do we get fearless?"

"You just jump, man. You just gotta jump. It takes 20 seconds of crazy bravery to get to the next place," said Love.

She's an icon. She's equal parts famous and infamous. She's a force to be reckoned with. She's a "Woman To Watch."
