Dolphins vs Jets 2014 NFL Predictions, Week 13 Odds, Free NFL Picks & ATS Trends

By Abraham Gutierrez

MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey takes center stage in Week 13 of the 2014 NFL season as the (6-5) Miami Dolphins and the (2-9) New York Jets renew their heated rivalry Monday night in primetime. Opening kickoff for this pivotal AFC East clash is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. EST.

Miami is coming off a 39-36 loss to Denver, while the New York Jets were crushed by Buffalo (38-3) in a game that had to be relocated to Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan, due to inclement weather conditions.

From a betting standpoint, the Dolphins were listed as seven-point underdogs versus Peyton Manning and the Broncos, thus, covering the spread thanks to a last-minute Ryan Tannehill touchdown that made it a three-point game.

The Fins improved to 7-4-0 against the spread in 2014 and are preparing to face a Jets team that’s more dangerous than its 2-8-1 ATS record indicates. But before analyzing all the ATS trends for this ballgame, it’s worth noting that NFL Week 13 oddsmakers list New York as a home underdog in this one.

As of Wednesday morning, NFL point spreads dictate that the Dolphins [-5½] will have a five-and-a-half point spread to satisfy in order to yield a winning bet versus a Jets [+5½] team that will enjoy a cushion of fewer than two field goals. And finally, the OVER/UNDER for this intradivisional scrap is set at a combined total of 42 points, and alternate (straight-up) betting lines go as follows: Miami [-260] vs. New York [+220].

From a head-to-head standpoint, ATS trends suggest that this game could go either way as far as who is best equipped to cover the spread. For example, pro-Fins bettors would be glad to know that Miami is 5-1-1 in its last seven ATS meetings played at MetLife Stadium.

In contrast, those looking to cash in on an underdog wager could hang their hats on the fact that the Jets are 21-9-1 in the last 31 ATS showdowns matchups with the Dolphins. Nevertheless, no matter which side people are picking, there seems tyo be one constant for this game: Defense.

The fact that the “Under” is 4-0 in the last 4 (Dolphins vs. Jets) games played in the Big Apple suggests that points could be at a premium Monday night. Also backing up the notion that this will be a low scoring affair is that Miami and New York have combined to score “Under” the designed O/U line in six of their last seven head-to-heads.
