Teen Charged In North Miami Beach Hit & Run Faces Judge

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -  A 17 -year old wanted in connection to a hit and run in North Miami Beach, appeared before a judge on Tuesday afternoon.

David Dessaline is facing charges in connection to the hit and run which left a 14-year old in the hospital.

The accident happened Monday afternoon at NE 167th Street and NE 14th Avenue.

Witnesses told police a car was stopped to let Brayan Brito, 14, cross the street.  Dessaline, who was behind the stopped car, allegedly drove his Honda Accord around it and hit Brito. The Honda then sped off leaving the injured teen in the street.

Brito's mother said that Brayan saw the car coming and he was trying to run away from it when he was hit.

Brito was taken to the Ryder Trauma Center where he was listed as stable.

Witnesses were able to give police the Honda's tag number and a police helicopter in the area was able to locate and follow the Honda to Dessaline mother's home t 215th Street and NE 12th Ave, according to police.

Officers were allowed inside, but they didn't find him there. Dessaline was taken into custody a few hours later.

Dessaline's mother said she drove  her son to turn himself in on Monday.

He's been charged with reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident with serious injury.

But this isn't his first run in with the law. Dessaline was on probation twice before. Once for burglary in an occupied dwelling.

The state wants to move this case to an adult court. His next court appearance is set for December 15th.
