Road Worker Hit While Working On Kendall Drive

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- A road worker had to be airlifted Wednesday night after a car slammed into him while he was on the job.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials said it happened near SW 88th Street and 77th Avenue.

Witnesses said the driver of a silver Ford Taurus was driving eastbound on Kendall Drive when she hit a man who was working on the side of the road.
CBS4's Summer Knowles reported the worker along with others were unloading street construction signs at the time when the driver plowed right into him, according to witnesses, wedging him in between a driver's car and a white pickup truck.
"I was disgusted and thinking maybe the person was not paying attention to what they were doing because there were two workers with their reflective gear on so how could she not see them? And we are not suppose to be going faster than 40 in this lane," said witness Jaime Gomez.
The person was suffering from a severe leg injury and had to be rushed to Kendall Regional Hospital.
Witnesses said it looked as if both of his legs had been severed. They also said the victim was conscious at the scene. No word on the man's condition.
As for the driver, it is unclear if any charges will be filed against her.
