Miami-Dade Schools & United Teachers Of Dade Reach Agreement

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Miami-Dade County Public Schools and the United Teachers of Dade have reached a tentative agreement on contract negotiations.
The agreement involves more than 21,000 teachers and 4,600 support and clerical personnel.
"Despite a significant tax collection shortfall that undermines the promise of equity funding for Miami-Dade's children, we were able to negotiate a contract that honors the teaching profession and advances the salary scale for all teachers," said Miami-Dade Superintendent of Schools Alberto M. Carvalho in a press release.
According to officials, the tentative agreement represents a total compensation increase of 4.3 percent, inclusive of a 2 percent prorated salary increase, a one percent prorated one-time stipend and a 1.3 percent healthcare cost containment.
Also, a $14 million health benefit increase was agreed upon.
Instructional support personnel will receive a two-percent salary increase plus a one-time supplement of one percent.
The cost of the benefit for both teachers and educational support personnel is $40.9 million.
The agreement now needs approval by the School Board of Miami-Dade County.
