CORAL GABLES (CBSMiami) –  A tentative deal has been reached over the fate of a 125-year-old tree in Coral Gables.

Developer Palmcorp, which is planning to build a house near the tree, reached a deal Tuesday with neighbors who are concerned the construction and planned root removal would kill the old live oak tree.

The oak tree has sat on Lisbon Street for 125 years, making it older than the City of Coral Gables.

Points they agreed on include building three smaller houses instead of one large one on the site, prohibiting any construction within 25 feet of the tree, having two arborists monitor the construction site several times a month and prohibit the trimming of any branches larger than four inches wide.

The new agreement will be proposed at a commission meeting on November 18th.
