MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The University of Miami is welcoming former Hurricanes and NFL quarterback Jim Kelly back to South Florida for a great celebration.

Kelly will serve as Grand Marshall for the 2014 Alumni Weekend and Homecoming festivities which will take place on the University of Miami campus from October 30 to November 2.

It's been a long year for Kelly.  Several months ago the Hall of Fame quarterback received the last of 35 radiation treatments for the cancer that had infested his upper jaw, nasal cavity and cheekbone.

It wasn't until early September that Kelly was given the news that he and his family had been hoping to hear.  He was declared cancer-free after follow-up biopsies came back negative.

The news came after testing, done in the weeks following his completion of Chemotherapy and radiation treatments, showed no evidence of cancer in his jaw.

Along with his Grand Marshall service, Kelly will also serve as honorary captain for the homecoming football game between the Canes and North Carolina on November 1.  Kickoff for the game is set for 12:30 p.m.

To celebrate Kelly's successful fight against cancer, the game has been declared a "#KellyTough Green Out." The Hurricanes are encouraging fans to wear green to the game to show their support for Kelly and the fight against cancer.

Kelly Tough shirts have been popping up all over Miami and are available at AllCanes and online at ShopMiamiHurricanes.com.

For every shirt sold, $5 of the sale price is going to the Kelly Foundation.

The university is also offering special tickets for the price of $12 (Kelly's football number with the Hurricanes and in the NFL) in honor of his return to UM for the special weekend.  The $12 tickets will be available between Noon and 12:59 p.m. starting on October 20 and running through Friday October 31, while supplies last. They can be purchased in person at the BankUnited Center, located on the UM campus, or online by clicking here.
