HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami) – The Hollywood Police Department reported two separate incidents of an attempted abduction Friday.

In the first incident at 6:33 a.m. on Funston Street,  the victim was on her way to school when the subject allegedly threw a cloth over her head.

The victim struggled and screamed sending the subject running.

In the second incident at 6:46 a.m. on South 21st Avenue, the victim -- an adult female -- was walking when she was approached from behind, police said.

A sheet was allegedly placed over her head and she was picked up in a "bear hug."

The victim was threatened with a knife, police said.

However, one was not seen, according to the victim.

The woman struggled with the man and a car drove past. Police believe the passing car forced the attempted abductor to flee.

"If that vehicle had not come down that street at that particular point in time, only he knows what he was going to do with her," said Hollywood Police Lt. Derik Alexander.

Alexander said this guy is dangerous and people need to be alert.

"We do understand that this is an extremely volatile situation, where life is definitely in jeopardy," he said. "He had an objective in mind and obviously he was going to continue to achieve that objective and thankfully, the women in this case were able to survive."

Since the women struggled with the suspect, police are working to see if there is any DNA they can recover from the women.

Police are also looking for surveillance video from the areas where the incidents occurred. Investigators believe the man's ultimate goal in the abductions was to commit a sexual battery.

"His actions and some of the statements from the information we've been gathering lead us to believe that the end result of these actions was going to be a sexual battery," Alexander said.

Residents want the guy caught.

"I hope they find the person," said a resident who did not want to give his name. "He deserves whatever he gets."

Police tell us they will saturate this area with police officers in the coming days.

Both of the victims described the subject similarly.

Their description was of a man approximately 30-years-old between 5'7" and 5'9" tall between 130 and 140 pounds wearing a black baseball cap, black jeans and with a full facial beard.

If you have any information, call Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
