Wearing sandals, shorts and a t-shirt, the burglar made his way up the drive-way of Patti Rourke's home in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The door alarm woke up Rourke who was home alone.

Her husband, Tim Fine, was away on business when he got the call about the burglary.

("My) stomach dropped," said Fine. "I'm not home to protect my wife. We've put cameras, alarm systems. You try to protect your family the best you can."

When Rourke heard the alarm, she walked towards the door which is when she saw a stranger standing in her kitchen.

That's when he bolted from the house. Surveillance video shows Rourke followed from a close distance to try to get the license plates of his car.

The couple said the intruder didn't take anything and they feel blessed he didn't hurt Rourke.

"If we can catch this guy, I know that my neighbors would feel a little bit safer," said Fine. "My grandchildren sleep in this house. It hurts me that someone like this is out there and I wouldn't want this to happen to anybody."

The burglary has put the whole neighborhood on edge.

"I'm surprised to hear of this type of criminal activity in this neighborhood," says neighbor Paul Singerman. We've been here 23 years, and it's been extraordinarily safe."

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade crime stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
