Deadly Boating Accident Claims Woman's Life

CORAL GABLES (CBSMiami) – A woman severely injured in a boating accident on Saturday night has passed away.

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, two boats were involved in the deadly accident that took place near Key Biscayne, a 68-foot yacht and a 27-foot boat.

According to the FWC, it was the larger boat that hit the smaller boat.

Three people from the smaller boat fell into the water following the collision.  They were then brought aboard the larger boat by some of its passengers.

Shortly after, a Coast Guard Station Miami Beach boat crew arrived on scene and transported the three boaters to receive medical care.

Maria Del Valle, 29, was first taken to Mercy Hospital for treatment before being transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Del Valle was a mother of four with the youngest being just 14-months-old, according to the FWC.

Two other people injured in the crash remain hospitalized.

There were 21 passengers on the larger boat and none were  harmed by the collision. The crash is under investigation by the wildlife commission.
