Man Shot In Miami Robbery Attempt

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A man was shot in the stomach after a robbery went wrong on Monday morning.

The man, who police said was approximately 50-years old, was on his bicycle near a bus stop on N.W. 79th St. and North Miami Court at 9:30 a.m., when he was approached by another man.

"As the victim was giving him his laptop computer and money and cell phone, the offender shot him for no apparent reason," said Sergeant Freddie Cruz.

The armed man then demanded money and other items.  As he handed over his belongings, the robber shot the man in the gut.

"We heard the shot and we were extremely surprised to see someone got shot right in front of our place," said business owner Luiz Noqueira.

Police are still piecing together the crime—checking nearby businesses for surveillance video and tracking down witnesses.

'We're asking anyone in the area who may have seen something or may have heard something, please come forward with any and all information so we can put this individual behind bars," Sgt. Cruz added.

The man was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital.  Police have not released his name or condition.
