Robber Says He Did It Because They Didn't Hire His 'Home-Girl'

PEMBROKE PARK (CBSMiami) - One of two men who stole thousands of dollars worth of items from a Family Dollar said he did it because they didn't hire his "home-girl."

Employees of the store located in Pembroke Park said they were closing up when two armed men came in.

The assistant manager of the store, located on 4100 W. Hallandale Beach Blvd., told Broward Sheriff's deputies she was at the back of the store when a masked man approached her with a gun.

Surveillance cameras captured video of the robbers every move.

"You can see as the men lead the women to the back of the store," said Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Gina Carter.  "At one point they actually put the gun up the one of the victims' head."

One of the men reportedly told them, "I'm doing this because my home-girl filled out an application and y'all [sic] didn't hire her." They said the thief kept asking for them to identify who was the manager.

The robber then held the assistant manager at gunpoint and asked her for the code to the safe.

At first she told him she didn't know the code, but he replied, "You are lying, I should shoot y'all [sic]."

After she gave him the code, she said the man demanded she put all the cash in a grey backpack.

The three employees and one shopper said they were then forced into the backroom at gunpoint.

The one shopper in the store was a Family Dollar assistant manager who was on maternity leave.

The thieves reportedly took all of their wallets, cell phones and other personal items, and then bound the women's hands and feet with duct tape.

The women were able to break free and hit the panic button once the robbers left.

BSO believes these men have been involved in similar robberies in Broward County.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers of Broward County at (954) 493-TIPS (8477) or online at www.browardcrimestoppers.org.

Crime Stoppers will pay up to $3,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
