When officers arrived they found smoke coming from the open door of apartment 113.

"One individual ran out of the apartment. He did have a lot of burn injuries. He was immediately transported by one of our rescue units. They made an attempt to remove the second victim just inside the door but the heat and smoke were too extensive. Our fire units arrived shortly there after and removed one individual who was deceased and they rescued a second one from the back side of the apartment," said Hialeah Fire Captain Cesar Espinosa.

Both of the injured were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital where they were treated for burns and smoke inhalation.

The deceased man has been identified as Carlos Campos.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the on unit. Three other apartments were temporarily evacuated due to high carbon dioxide levelos.

Hialeah Fire Prevention and State Fire Marshall officials say the preliminary cause of the fire was electrical in nature. Samples to rule out any other possible cause have been gathered and sent for evaluation, however the results may take a week or so.
