MIAMI (CBSMiami) — A corrections officer is suing a Miami-Dade Police officer and his wife over an alleged road rage incident she said could have cost her her life.

Georgina Illa said officer Jonathan Lang shot into her car.

The alleged incident began on the Florida Turnpike near Caribbean Boulevard nearly two months ago.

Illa and her attorney said her case seems to be going nowhere and they hope this lawsuit will change things.

“I want justice. I need justice,” said Illa.  “And this has become my life.  They’ve told me, ‘live your life, forget about it.'”

“I think the public needs to know who’s really out protecting the streets,” said Illa’s attorney, Kenneth Pinos.

Illa said pictures show the damage done to her vehicle after a bullet fired allegedly by Lang struck it from the back.

“Seconds later, he was pointing a gun at me and he shot,” said Illa.

The bullet went through the trunk and the passenger seat and when the alleged victim managed to alert a Miami-Dade police officer, who stopped Lang, she was shocked to find out he was a police officer.

“The fact that it was a police officer, it was mind blowing and what was even more mind blowing was that just after I found out he’s an officer, everything was just, ‘Well, he’s an officer.’”

Pinos said Lang refused to allow a search of his vehicle, which was later impounded.

Investigators searched the officer’s car and found ammunition but no gun.

Surveillance video allegedly shows a man wearing gloves using a car key to get in and take what Illa believes was the gun used in the shooting.

The surveillance video has not been released because of the ongoing investigation, which is being handled by Florida Highway Patrol.

CBS4’s Oralia Ortega stopped by Lang’s home but no one answered.  Lang has not been charged.
