Coral Gables Police Arrest Alleged Female Burglar Caught On Camera

CORAL GABLES (CBSMiami) – Police in Coral Gables arrested a woman after she allegedly broke into a home.

It was not her first encounter with police Monday.

At 10:14 a.m., a resident called the police to report a woman at her door asking for a man the resident did not know.

The resident contacted officers which identified the woman in the 500 block of Bargello Avenue as 20-year-old Melissa Jackson of Miami.

Officers said they interrogated the woman, and let her go.

At 11:10 a.m. officers responded to a burglary at 405 Vittorio Avenue where a subject removed a screen from the window and attempted to open it.

The subject was unsuccessful and fled the area, but surveillance video captured the subject and officers recognized the woman as Jackson because they had encountered earlier in the morning.

Officers managed to locate the woman in the 5100 block of Maggiore Street and arrested her.

Jackson confessed and was charged with two counts of residential burglary.

While in police custody and restrained in the interrogation room, the subject managed to retrieve a plastic bag from the trash.

While under police surveillance, the subject attempted to harm herself by asphyxiation.

Detectives intervened and saved her life.  She is now in jail.
