No Sales Tax For Energy Saving Appliances, Products This Weekend

TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami) –  Florida shoppers wanting to get more bang for their buck on their energy bill can opt to shop for energy efficient products this weekend and pay less for them.

Shoppers can buy energy-efficient appliances without paying sales taxes.

The three-day shopping period is part of a series of "sales tax holidays" approved this spring by lawmakers and Gov. Rick Scott.

This weekend's sales tax holiday is for the purchase of energy and water saving products such as dishwashers, freezers, refrigerators, light bulbs, washers, faucets, shower heads, ceiling fans and more.

Tax will not be collected on the first $1,500 of the price of select Energy Star and WaterSense products during this tax-free weekend. State officials said upgrading these items in your home could result in significant savings on your utility bill.

This is the second time energy efficient appliances have been tax free.

The tax free holiday begins at 12:01 AM Friday and ends at 11:59 Sunday night.
