TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami) – If you’re looking to lower your energy bill, it’s time to go shopping.

Florida shoppers this weekend will be able to buy energy-efficient appliances without paying sales taxes.

The three-day shopping period is part of a series of “sales tax holidays” approved this spring by lawmakers and Gov. Rick Scott.

This weekend’s sales tax holiday is for the purchase of energy and water saving products such as dishwashers, freezers, refrigerators, light bulbs, washers, faucets, shower heads, ceiling fans and more.

Tax will not be collected on the first $1,500 of the price of select ENERGY STAR and WaterSense products during this tax-free weekend. State officials say upgrading these items in your home could result in significant savings on your utility bill.
