Deadly Shooting In Allapattah
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - An investigation is underway after a deadly shooting in Miami's Allapattah neighborhood.
The shooting happened late Sunday in the 1400 block of NW 43rd Street.
One woman who lives in the neighborhood, who didn't wish to be identified in this report, said everything seemed ordinary until the gunshots rang out. She said she saw two young men walking down her street and went inside her house. Moments later she heard the gunfire.
"I never saw no fighting, no arguing no pushing nothing," said the woman. "Once I'm in my door, one minute two minutes I heard the gunshots. My son the little one said 'Mom, I heard gunshots' and I said 'No, they're not gunshots, just relax, go to sleep'."
She added in the moments after the shooting her husband tried to be heroic, not realizing someone had been murdered.
"He said he saw someone running away so he was following him but he never thought it was a killer, he thought he stole something so he was following him," said the woman.
Family members said the man who died was 19-year old Emory Alexander, known as Cassie.
A woman who identified herself as Alexander's aunt said his mother was too grief stricken to visit the site where her son died. She said whole family was shocked and saddened by what had happened and hoped that someone who knows who shot her nephew comes forward.
Another woman who lives in the area hopes her children are never this close to violence again.
"It's scary, even my little one is like mommy I heard something, I'm trying to relax them, but it was scary for me, especially my neighbors she was crying saying oh my God I don't want my daughters to see, the blood, the person, it's scary."
Police struggled to identify Alexander for hours. His cousin told CBS4's Natalia Zea he wasn't carrying ID and they had to match his fingerprints.
