Troopers said three vehicles were involved in the accident that happened at 8:30 p.m. Monday night at Northeast 18th Ave. on Miami Gardens Drive.

Witnesses said the driver of the Mercedes was driving in a reckless manner.

"Speeding and he clearly ran the red light..," said Trooper Joe Sanchez.

The driver of the Mercedes ran away from the crash but authorities said he left so much evidence behind that FHP was able to identify him.

Sanchez said  Hernandez's death changes the investigation.

"Now this changes.  We're investigating a vehicular homicide. Although the driver has not turned himself in, we are in communication with him and it's just a matter of time," said Sanchez. "He needs to turn himself in or it's just a matter of time until we arrest him."

Authorities said the case has been turned over to the Traffic Homicide Investigation Unit. The driver now faces vehicular homicide charges.
