DAVIE (CBSMiami) – With the NFL Preseason now a thing of the past, teams around the league have finalized their 53-man rosters after being allowed up to 90 players during the months leading up to the regular season.
Over 700 players were cut last weekend when teams had to go from 75 down to 53. That means each team had to get rid of 22 players, giving the ones who made the final cut the option to change their jersey numbers if they so choose.READ MORE: Broward Schools Superintendent Robert Runcie To Plead Not Guilty To Perjury Charge
It’s not uncommon for rookies or late addition free agents to take numbers that aren’t their desired choice simply because the ones they normally use aren’t available.
That will sometimes change once the final rosters are named, giving these new players a chance to select a number that they either used in college or just an option they like better based on the NFL numbering system.
The Miami Dolphins 53-man roster features 11 rookies and several new free agents, and once the final cuts were made there were several players who wanted to upgrade their jersey number.
