IKEA To Open Sweetwater Store This Month

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Miami-Dade fans of the Scandinavian furniture and home furnishings retailer IKEA will no longer have to schlep north to Sunrise to while the hours cruising the store and lunch on their famous Swedish meatballs.

On August 27th IKEA will open their second South Florida store in Sweetwater.

"Construction work has advanced far enough to allow the interior build-up process and finishing details to be complete by August 27," noted Selwyn Crittendon, store manager of the future IKEA Miami. "Now our primary goal is the final training of the more-than-350 local hires joining the IKEA coworker family."

The 416,000 square-foot IKEA Miami, with its nearly 1,500 parking spaces, is located is just west of the Dolphin Mall, at the intersection of the Dolphin Expressway (SR 836) and Florida's Turnpike.

The new store will feature 10,000 exclusively designed items, 44 inspirational room-settings, three model home interiors, a supervised children's play area and a 600-seat restaurant, according to a statement from the company. Other family friendly features include a 'Children's IKEA' area in the Showroom, baby care rooms, play areas throughout the store and preferred parking.

One unique feature of the new store is the installation of South Florida's largest rooftop solar array, consistent with the company's 90% solar presence atop its U.S. locations.

Since IKEA has quite a fan base in the U.S., managers of the new store will allow people who want to be the first inside to start lining up on August 25th.
