Walter Makaula Really Sweeps Up In This Week's Job Swap

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Ever wondered what the job duties are for a housekeeper at a hotel on South Beach?

CBS4 This Morning's anchor Walter Makaula got the chance to find out when he traded in his suit and news script for a Polo shirt and cleaning supplies. Makaula swapped jobs with Executive Housekeeper, Yasmeen Simmons.

Simmons gave Makaula a quick run through of her duties at the Tides on South Beach.

"The guests are waiting downstairs, so we have to put a rush on it," said Simmons. "I need you to collect all of the linens and remove the trash. You have to clean the sofa, the desk, and make sure you clean inside of the desk everywhere. You have to scrub the toilet too, from top to bottom, around the baseboards and behind. It has to be cleaned inside and out, no hair anywhere inside of the bathroom, period."

With just 30 minutes to clean the room, Makaula was left alone to get the job done.

He started with the toilet, and then the shower and bathroom sink were next.

Next, it was time to attack the rest of the room. He grabbed the trash can and tossed used napkins, drink containers, and plastic bags lying around into it.

Makaula pulled the bed sheets and pillow cases off, rolled them up, and replaced them with fresh linens. The walk-in closet was cleaned out, mini bar restocked, and the floors vacuumed and mopped.

After he completed the room just in time, Simmons led him to a second room that needed cleaning.

Simmons said she was thrilled to swap jobs for the day and was interested in making the job change permanent.
