Winston Returns With Quiet Week After Suspension

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida State's Jameis Winston returned from a three-game suspension after receiving a civil citation for a shoplifting incident two weeks ago. The Heisman winner had a quiet week, pitching just two innings and having two at-bats.

The Seminoles won 3 of 4 games and are now in the final week of the regular season.

A look at how the 20-year-old sophomore fared last week:

___

IN RELIEF: Winston made two appearances on the mound in the ninth inning, but did not record a save. He struck out the first batter he faced since the suspension in a 9-4 win over Stetson on Tuesday. Winston then gave up a Jordan Schulz single to center field. Schulz moved to second on a passed ball and to third when Winston allowed a runner on first with a fielding error. Schulz scored on a fly ball to left field and Winston got out of the inning on a line out to first base. He took the mound again in a 5-4 loss to North Carolina on Sunday and faced just three batters. Winston recorded the first out on a fly ball to center field, gave up a single to right field then got Korey Dunbar to hit into a 5-4-3 double play to end the inning. Winston's pitching line for the week: 2.0 innings, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 K, 0 BB, 8 batters faced.

AT THE PLATE: Winston went 0 for 2 with his only at-bats coming during a 10-2 win against North Carolina on Saturday. He pinch hit in the eighth inning and struck out swinging. Winston then popped out to third base in the ninth inning. Winston's line this week: 1 game, 0 H, 0 BB, 0 RBI, 0 R, 1 K.

HIGHLIGHT: Winston made quick work of the Tar Heels on Sunday with a double-play ground ball to end the inning after three batters, but Seminoles couldn't rally offensively.
