Still No Leads In Case Of Missing North Miami Woman
NORTH MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Nearly three months after a North Miami woman mysteriously disappeared from her home, police say they are no closer to finding her.
Noemi Gonzalez, 54, was last seen back in February, when her son woke up and found that she was missing from her bedroom.
CBS4 News obtained court documents that reveal detectives have been sifting through evidence since her disappearance, but so far their search has led to dead ends.
A search affidavit reveals forensics investigators searched the home in April with a liquid called luminol, which can detect trace amounts of blood but is not conclusive.
Documents show they found "two glowing streak patterns on both curtain panels" in Noemi's bedroom that "indicated the presence of presumptive blood." They also discovered a "four foot long mark on the floor in between both beds" which was "consistent with an object being dragged" and with "an attempt to clean up the presumptive blood."
Detectives served a search warrant says later and took dozens of items from the house including drapes, sheets, clothing and a mop.
"I'm baffled, I'm still in shock," said Pedrito. "I'm in shock [police] wouldn't even come tell me something like this."
Police say despite the hopeful leads, they turned up nothing.
Further tests found the substance inside the bedroom was not human blood and blood located on the patio turned out to be animal blood.
Detectives are back at square one, while Noemi's family remains hopeful that she will return home. They are offering a $10,000 reward for information that will lead to her whereabouts.
Noemi was reported missing on February 12th by her son who was living with her in a North Miami duplex.
"She wasn't in the house and all of her belongings were left behind," said her son Pedrito Gonzalez.
Pedrito said he saw her sleeping at 2:00 A.M. but when he woke up and checked on her at 8:00 A.M. she was gone.
He said she had left behind her pocketbook, keys, cell phone and medicine. Gonzalez needs daily medication for her epileptic seizures.
"To have someone who is the core of our family not here with us and not sharing moments, it is very devastating to our family," said Liz Gonzalez, Noemi's sister.
"We hope that the prayers from everybody will bring her back home," said Carmen Norman, Gonzalez's niece.
"Every day goes by gets harder and harder," said Vincent Andujar, Gonzalez's nephew, adding, "It's strange. It just is a mystery and that's why everybody's worried."
