Scalp Tattoos Could Be A Solution For Balding Men

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - "The Power Cut" is the hot, young look that everyone from executives to athletes have been sporting.

Now, men who are bald or suffer from hair loss can sport it too.

This new look is made possible with a scalp tattoo called Scalp MicroPigmentation.

McGrady Charles, a young business man of Miami, has tiny dots that looked like fake stubble tattoo'd onto his head, matching a 5 o'clock shadow look.

"For me, from before to after, it's a huge difference," said Charles.  "You can see a hair line now. It's much better."

HIS Hair Clinic is one company in South Florida which offers the cosmetic procedure. It takes three sessions and can cost between four and five thousand dollars. Getting the tattoo on your head can also be a little painful.

"On a scale of one to ten, I would say a seven," said Charles.

Matthew Lulo, one of the specialists who performs Scalp MicroPigmentation, compared the pain to tiny bee stings, but he added the discomfort is worth it.

"It gives guys the confidence they don't have when they lose their hair," said Lulo.

Lulo is not a doctor but a licensed tattoo artist who underwent specialized training in Europe.

"We self-regulate our industry," said Lulo.  "We do meet all the local health and safety codes."

Lulo was so pleased with his own treatment he received four years ago that he went on to work for the company to help balding men all over the country.

"We use organic, plant based ink," said Lulo. "It holds color for up to eight years and if you're not happy with it, you can always come back for a touch-up."

Charles said none of his friends or co-workers have noticed that the buzz-cut he is sporting isn't real.

"I have no regrets," said Charles.  "This seemed like the best solution."
