DORAL (CBSMiami) – Out of the Walmart stores nationwide, one in South Florida outshines them all.
The Walmart in Doral is the number one grossing store in the entire United States, according to a store spokesperson.
The “Supercenter” carries something for everyone, from produce and pool supplies to clothing and cosmetics.
The Doral location also stocks community favorites like Cuban break and mango ice cream.
There’s a coffee bar brewing fresh, hot “cafecito” around the close.
Assistant Manager Mustapha Turay said it’s the blend of regional items, coupled with a central location that make the store along Northwest 87th Avenue the chain’s top revenue-generator nationwide.
“We are right next to the airport,” Turay said. “We deal with a lot of foreign customers and we try to serve our customers.”
Customer Mayda Sierra was visiting from Venezuela when she stopped in for a few necessities Friday night.
“Good prices, excellent prices and good quality,” Sierra said of the products she purchased.
She was also happy to learn she could purchase Harina P.A.N, a brand of corn flour used to make Venezuelan arepas. The item is very hard to come by in her home country.
“I have to make a long line to get it (in Venezuela),” she said.
While consumers come for the convenience, the retailer has faced allegations it underpays its workers.
A proposed Walmart in Midtown Miami has been met with plenty of pushback.
But despite any negative press, shoppers can’t seem to stay away.
After all, there are very few stores where you can buy a bicycle and beef, fishing rods and furniture, electronics and auto supplies all under one roof.
“I can find everything here,” Sierra said.
The retailer also carries a wide variety of products online, like wedding veils and caskets.
Earlier this week, Walmart announced it has teamed up with autoinsurance.com to let shoppers find and buy insurance policies online.
The Doral Walmart is located at 8651 NW 13th Terrace.
