Body Pulled From Miami Springs Canal

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Police divers pulled a woman's body from a Miami Springs canal on Sunday.

A driver spotted the body near a bridge in the area of Canal Street and the Curtiss Parkway around 9 a.m. and called police.

Police blocked off the road, startling neighbors.

"This was all taped off," said Mitch Reyes, who lives nearby, adding, "I'd say there were eight or 10 squad cars here."

Miami-Dade police divers were called in to assist with the recovery of the body.

A short time later the body was brought to shore.

The investigation was then turned over to Miami-Dade police.

Police aren't saying who the woman was, how she died, or how she ended up in the canal, but police said it could be related to a missing person's case.

Neighbors who live along SW Canal Street which is lined with apartments, shops, and restaurants, said all the officers aren't normal in their neighborhood especially not on a Sunday morning.

"That's crazy! I mean this town is really quiet. You never see these things happen," said neighbor Mitch Reyes.

"It's pretty quiet, pretty quiet, real quiet area," said neighbor Rusty Inguanzo.
