MIAMI (CBS4) – There’s a lot going on at the all new Earl’s Kitchen and Bar in Kendall.

The Canadian-based, family owned chain has 60 locations in Canada.  It added its fifth U.S. location in South Florida just a few weeks ago at Dadeland Mall. Executive Chef Luke Verkuylen said that he was lured down to Miami from Canada.

“Being in Dadeland Mall, there’s great traffic in this area,” said Chef Verkuylen. “This is what this area needs. We need some nightlife down here; we need some good food coming in here. We’re going to turn some heads when they see what we can do here.”

Earl’s Kitchen is beautifully designed with communal tables, booths, outside dining and a center bar.

“There’s white marble and light woods,” said Verkuylen. “Our open kitchen concept is very open so you can see the cooks cooking the food, it’s great.”

The menu is also expansive from light bites to big deal dishes.

“It’s a global skillet, our recipes reach every corner of the globe,” said Verkuylen. “Coming new to Miami we’re blessed to have local fish. So as a chef, I’m blessed to be in a place like this.”

Creative cocktails are the rage at Earl’s.  If you go, check out the “Mad Hatter,” a vodka based drink for four.

As for the fabulous food the Crispy Thai Shrimp, with cilantro paint on the side, hits the spot. It’s got a great crunch and spicy taste to it, but also sweet from the shrimp.

Or try the Grilled Chicken Baked Brie on ciabatta bread which could be considered a dessert sandwich.  You can taste the super moist chicken and the fig on the bottom, it’s better than any day after Thanksgiving sandwich than you’ve ever had.

Another tantalizing creation is the miso-glazed sable fish with soba noodles, spinach and shitake mushrooms.

The glaze is a dessert which tastes like its honey-glazed and citrusy, all on a beautiful, light fish.

Earl’s Kitchen and Bar is fun, flirty and a fantastic new addition to a well-known shopping mall.
