Parents Concerned After Teacher Is Accused Of Having Sex With Student

LIGHTHOUSE POINT (CBS4) – A second-year teacher at Zion Lutheran Christian School was arrested Wednesday after he was found partially naked in the backseat of a car with a 14-year-old student.

Lighthouse Point Police said Eric Beasley, 24, admitted that he had performed a sex act on the girl and that he was the girl's 9th grade biology teacher at the school. After he was arrested, police said Beasley confessed to multiple sexual encounters with the girl starting in February.

Beasley gave detectives permission to search his cell phone and during the search, police found a picture of his genitalia and a sexually explicit video, both of which were sent to the victim's cell phone.

Police also said that Beasley engaged in "inappropriate behavior" with the victim during school hours at Zion Lutheran Christian School.

"I was very disgusted, very disgusted," said Nakenya Robinson, who has four children who attend the school. "I'm hurt for the mother and child, I feel their pain."

Parents said they were told officers would be on campus Thursday to interview students who had Beasley for Biology and Science classes.

"Taking advantage of a girl like that is just horrible, there's no explanation for it," said parent Jason Clarke. "For it to happen in school or during school, what do they have to say about that?"

Beasley was charged with nine counts of sexual battery by a custodian with the victim being under eighteen but over twelve.

The Headmaster at Zion Lutheran, Philippe Dupont, said Beasley is on unpaid administrative leave and that the primary goal is for students to be psychologically and physical safe. Dupont said he alerted parents of the arrest and will keep them updated through email list blasts.

"That's a shame because this is a very nice school, a very nice school," said parent Beverly Majors.

"It's kind of traumatizing but you hear that kind of stuff everyday. Hopefully he's innocent," said a parent who identified himself as Josh.

The school dealt with a similar sex scandal back in 2005. Baseball coach Andrew Schafer, 23, was fired and arrested for allegedly having sex with a 15 year old student.

Some parents are with the news they say they don't feel their children are safe.

"I'm pulling my kids out," said Robinson. "Do you know how much it cost to go to this school?"

Beasley bonded out of Broward County Jail but could not be reached for comment.

The court did not have record of which attorney will be representing Beasley.

Zion Lutheran Christian School declined to be interviewed by CBS4 on the advice of their attorney but said they are fully cooperating with the investigation.
